Bolter Offerings now and for Summer 2023- plus Zoom Invitation "What About Excerpts?"

Greetings everyone!

Hope this email finds you all in good health and spirits. This email will consist of some current goings on and some coming up. Perhaps there will be something for you that will catch your interest. This email also includes a Zoom lInvitation and donation instructions.

*Train Athletic Craft, session 3, will be on zoom this coming Saturday 5/20/23 at 11am EDT. Yes, this is another acronym for TAC! Those who have participated in my TAC offerings starting in 2021 are well aware there are many acronyms for TAC. Originally TAC stands for The Amazing Club. It is not a closed club but is open to all who feel compelled "To bravely go where few have gone before!" :-) It's amazing because there are those that actually want to do it! A free will donation of your choice is suggested for TACraft sessions.

-Session 3 is called "What About Excerpts?" Train Athletic Craft Video 3 (here is the link: https://youtu.be/Xdl96GfNYs8 ) is uploaded to YouTube and describes some of what we will be getting up to on Saturday. The companion notes are located on the Frequency Bone blog here http://frequencybone.blogspot.com/2023/05/companion-notes-to-train-athletic-craft.html. This is an important Zoom session for those who are feeling in a rut with excerpts and the excerpts are sounding tired or perhaps, shall we say, uninspired. The excerpts are parts of incredible music! They are not technical exercises. I'm hoping this session will reconnect the meaning of them through making them mean something personally to you that is still connected to the spirit of the music. My hope in this session is that we can take our Trombone Arban Consciousness and integrate it with our developing Transmitting Art Consciousness! Hmmm.. new TAC acronyms.. The Zoom Invitation is located at the end of this email.

Companion Notes to "Train Athletic Craft" video 3, "What About Excerpts?"

Orchestral excerpts have gone down an interesting path. For those that are taking auditions at the professional level or entry into a music school as a student, they represent rejection or acceptance. This is a job-application attitude which then focuses the approach to these short sound bites, in my view, to the equivalent of looking at taxidermy- dead stuffed animals or butterflies under glass.  In other words , something NOT ALIVE!

The preoccupation of making everything sound "mistake free" and spotless shows that the regular "cattle call" auditions are far away from offering an environment that encourages the best out of the player. But that makes sense from the level of looking at the profession itself. Since the virtual reality age where many times we find ourselves reflected by mechanical devices such as very sophisticated tuners, metronomes, videos and all what we see on a computer, we can start to lose touch with the more personal meaning of ourselves being in service to the SPIRIT of the music. But instead, being preoccupied not to mess up.

There is NO substitute for building a real relationship with the music and your instrument's role in the piece. How can a great actor and actress play their role in a [play or movie without knowing the whole story? I'm saying something different than knowing every theoretical aspect of the piece. Without having a feeling, emotion, mental imagery or story, how is it going to sound like anything beyond excellent technique with a planned set of how phrasing should go? Technique + Music = Art.

Ask yourself: "What am I saying in this excerpt?" "What am I communicating?" "What  atmosphere is being created?' Then ask about the how, where, when and what that you will need to make it happen. Make the excerpts ALIVE!

Train Athletic Craft Session 2, 5/6/23 11am EDT Zoom invite included!

Hello Everyone!

We will have our second session Train Athletic Craft on this coming Saturday 5/6/23 at 11am EDT. Yes, this is another acronym for TAC! Those who have participated in my TAC offerings starting in 2021 are well aware there are many acronyms for TAC. Originally TAC stands for The Amazing Club. It is not a closed club but is open to all who feel compelled "To bravely go where few have gone before!" :-)

*In session 2, we will look at the "Hand Sculptor(ing) technique that I've shown and described a bit in Video 2 (https://youtu.be/jk2uReF1o6s) and on my Instagram @nbolt2. This is meant to show that the field of techniques is infinite and it only needs us To Activate Creativity and hopefully some of my process will Trigger Authentic Connections that are already in you, (even if latently), To Activate Continually!

.

Train Athletic Craft is another way of looking at the first overlay called Robotic Automatic Systems of the Overlay System. This system consists of three main overlays. Lots written and spoken on these overlays already. The Overlay System will naturally appear in these TAC sessions, including, of course, the other two overlays of Skill and Choice (second overlay) & Integration and Art (third overlay). They will all start to resonate and play a vitally active part in these sessions.

In these sessions, we will also be warming-up together and looking at the fundamentals in a variety of ways which you are invited to apply in your own privte practice time. Which leads us into how this acronym of TAC came about! It was seeing that in all performing arts, there is the practical aspect of training the athletic (mind-body-coordination) part of ourselves to develop skills and those skills to build a craft for a specific purpose, i.e. brass playing, playing any musical instrument, dance of any kind, acting, theater, figure skating etc.

Zoom Inviation will be included at the bottom of the donation instructions.

Free will donation of your choice is suggested for these sessions. If this is not possible, please feel free to join anyway.

Looking forwward to training our athletic craft together!
